For whatever reason, society trains us to believe that making yourself a priority is selfish and that grinds my gears.

You can’t pour from an empty cup, that’s a fact. So why is it so hard for us to believe that we need to fill ourselves up before we are able to adequately give to others around us??

The definition of selfishness is to lack consideration for others.

So listen here friends: there’s a big difference between taking proper care of yourself and being selfish!

There’s a quote by one of my fav people (Buddha) that says, “if your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.”

We need to start making ourselves a priority. We need to take better care of ourselves so we have the capacity to do more, be more, experience more, impact more, and be more alive.

Put yourself at the top of your to-do list everyday and everything else will fall into place.

Self-care can take many forms.

  • Getting enough sleep at night
  • Drinking enough water daily
  • Moving your body frequently
  • Meditating and clearing your mind
  • Thinking positively and kindly about yourself
  • Saying ‘no’ and setting boundaries
  • Unplugging from electronics

Grab a notepad and pen and jot down some of the things you do for your self-care.

This will go one of two ways. 1) you will write down a list a mile long of all the ways you care for yourself and show yourself love. Keep doing you. This is awesome. Or 2) you will struggle to come up with more than 3 things you do for yourself on a regular basis. This will be your red flag.

This will be your wakeup call.

Start to implement self-care, like, today.
