Creating Your Future On Your Terms, Point #1: Angela dives into her story and where it all began: discovering she was pregnant at 18.

To start off, Angela shares how prior to discovering her pregnancy, she was always a model student and excelled in her education. But after she graduated high school and took off to college, she discovered that she was pregnant. She didn’t share the news with her family for about two days after this discovery, but once she told her family, she definitely did not get the response she expected.

Instead of a lot of support, Angela received some very negative responses, including the suggestion to get an abortion.

In fact, she was told that it was embarrassing that she was pregnant. However, her father had her back and let her know that everything would be okay. Angela’s father expressed that he knew this was her business and she would handle it however she felt appropriate.

However, Angela went on to be told how she’d become a disappointment and how she’d probably end up at McDonald’s. This was when she had the realization that nobody else can plan her life. The plan and the journey of her life were completely up to her.

Creating Your Future On Your Terms, Point #2: Taking negativity and turning it into a positive fuel of fire.

One of my favorite aspects of Angela’s story is how she turned negativity into fuel to live her best life. Angela resumed school as normal until she was nearing her due date. Then she went home early to complete exams and have her child. After the birth, as she continued her college education, she transitioned to online schooling. As she was doing this, her advisor even told her that she would not graduate on time.

This lit a fire inside Angela, and got her thinking about how it was entirely possible to still graduate and get her education while being a new mother to her child. So, Angela went on to finish all her remaining courses and graduate on time with her peers. One of the most satisfying moments for Angela was walking across the graduation stage with her baby.

Creating Your Future On Your Terms, Point #3: Anything is possible when you set your mind to it.

We all can take away some major lessons from Angela’s story, but one of the most crucial is that anything is possible when you set your mind to it – including creating your future on your own terms.

Angela expresses that throughout her life and childhood, there were many things she could not control. However, the biggest mindset shift she made was realizing that she has control over her own life and her own personal choices. Realizing this control is crucial to shaping your future.

I also appreciate how humble Angela is as she tells us that her journey was not all rainbows and butterflies. She had moments where she thought of quitting or had breakdowns. But throughout these ups and downs, she remained focused on her end goal and we can apply the same mindset to our own goals and challenges.
